Things to do in the Sacramento Area
Sacramento is a great place to live, for both its climate, and its proximity to wonderful destinations. Approximately two hours away are the San Francisco bay area, and in the opposite direction, beautiful Lake Tahoe. Monterey is just a bit further, and Napa/Sonoma counties, i.e., wine country, aren't far, either. Locally, there are wonderful restaurants, our own wine region, and ever-expanding shopping choices. Visit the following links to check out something new, or to return to one of your favorite haunts. Happy trails!
Restaurants
Granite Rock Grill, Excellent down-home food in a casual, welcoming environment. One of our fav breakfast joints. Try the Sears Favorite or the Granite Rock Scramble...or any of their skillet specials...or any of their daily specials...
La Provence, Beautiful setting and fine French cuisine. Their Sunday brunch is exquisite.
Red Robin, Locations all over Sacramento and Roseville. One of my favorite burger joints, and great garlic fries.
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Locations in Sacramento and Roseville. Great steaks and sides. Try the bread pudding for dessert.
Sky Sushi, 7456 Foothills Blvd, Roseville. Our favorite sushi place. The fish is fresh, the creations interesting, and the names inventive - some of our favorite rolls are Arigato, Scallop Maniac, and 4 U. There's also a roll called Who's Your Daddy - need we say more?
Honorable Mention:
Icing on the Cupcake, Not a restaurant, but a cute little "cupcakery" serving up all kinds of delicious cupcake/frosting combinations. Yummy!
Activities/Destinations
Amador Wine Country, Go explore the countryside and the various wineries tucked into Amador County. Don't forget a picnic lunch and a designated driver!
Lake Tahoe, Whether it's the North Shore or South Shore, water-skiing or snow-skiing, Lake Tahoe is a breathtaking destination that will have you returning again and again.
Monterey Bay Aquarium, One of the nation's top aquariums. Check out their mesmerizing jellyfish exhibit.
Music Circus at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, We saw A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and thoroughly enjoyed the show for its neat setting and casual atmosphere. There were people there in jeans, shorts, t-shirts...and they even offered slushies! A fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
Napa Valley Wine Train, We've done this tour, and it is fabulous. Great food, great wine (naturally), and a cool train experience (overlooking the majestic views of the Napa Valley) to boot. Grab a group of friends, book this tour, and enjoy...
Old Sacramento, Cute shops, small-town feel, and an historic landmark to boot.
San Francisco Theater, Nothing says Broadway like seeing a show in "The City". One of my favorite winter-time activities.
Shopping
Fountains at Roseville, Just across the street from the Galleria (above), this is an upscale, pedestrian-friendly, outdoor shopping center. Just recently discovered the shoe mecca that is known as DSW Shoes - grabbed 2 pair!
Galleria at Roseville, This mall just underwent a major expansion, and I still haven't had time to explore all the new shops. Excellent emphasis on families, including multiple play areas for the little ones.
